Ten years ago, a drunk driver crashed through a railway crossing. As a result, 100 people died or were seriously injured when the train overturned. At the time, a vehicular manslaughter law didn’t exist, so the driver received a mere five years in prison for driving while intoxicated. But one day years later, his body is discovered at the site of the train accident, bisected down the middle, apparently run over by a train.
The detective in charge of the case is Reiko Himekawa, who rose through the ranks incredibly quickly. While investigating, Reiko learns of a previously unknown connection between a train station employee and the rollover accident.
