Synopsis

This series isn’t a morality play or a samurai drama. Its main characters are not sword-wielding warriors, but willowy women. The series Ooku (The Inner Palace) uses the location known as the Inner Palace of Edo Castle to create a full-fledged human drama depicting the lives of the women living there.
This series tells the story of the birth of the Ooku in the early years of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
The Ooku or Inner Palace was created during the rule of the Second Shogun Hidetada. The organization and system of this palace was perfected by Kasuga-No-Tsubone, the nanny of the Third Shogun Iemitsu. The story develops while focusing on the life of this illustrious “empress”, the most famous inhabitant of the Ooku.
The main characters are Kasuga-No-Tsubone, Iemitsu and Oman, who is Iemitsu’s first love. While focusing on the concubines, the series depicts the loves, tears, jealousies, intrigues and life struggles of the inmates of the confining “women’s prison” known as the Ooku. Here’s a story on a grand scale about the loves and hates of women.
