Rei Tanisaki is an 18-year-old woman who dreams of becoming a pastry chef. While at her part-time job one day, she is selected to become a full-time employee, a major first step in making her dream come true. However, after paying a visit to the local ward office, Rei learns that she has no family registry. In a sense, she doesn’t and never has existed in this world. While in the grip of deep despair, Rei’s only ally is Ryuichiro Kiyama, a temp at the ward office But Kiyama has a shameful secret of his own. He once had a career working for a newspaper, but after a certain incident, was forced to leave the company and now lives a quiet, lonely life. When these two solitary citizens who now live their lives with bated breath encounter each other, the wheels of fate silently begin to turn.
