The setting is a small middle school on a remote island.
Azuma has been playing baseball since early boyhood, but suddenly quits.
When Azuma won’t give a reason, his best friend, Saijo, can’t hide his irritation.
The two of them gradually grow apart.
In the middle of all this, the students are confined to the school when the typhoon of a lifetime hits. After the power goes out, a gust of wind breaks windows, exposing the school to nature’s fury. Meanwhile, Azuma encounters a mysterious girl who falls unconscious after being struck by lightning.
The girl’s name is Noruda.
She claims that at dawn, Earth will be swallowed up by a pillar connecting “the earth vortex” to “the sky vortex” and then reassembled. Azuma is disturbed by Noruda’s preposterous story, but is also drawn to her mysterious aura, and resolves to help her.
Azuma tells Saijo about Noruda and asks for his help.
But Saijo thought Azuma was finally about to have a confidential talk about baseball, so he won’t so much as listen to his former best friend.
Azuma struggles to do whatever he can alone, but is helpless when Noruda is swept up by a powerful force. He hurries after her, but Saijo stops him.
Azuma couldn’t be open with Saijo and Saijo couldn’t have faith in Azuma, but the two have it out at last. Afterwards, they team up, making a mad dash to save Noruda (and save the world).
