A key visual has been released for the Anne Shirley animated series!The show begins airing on NHK Educational TV at 18:25 on Sat. April 5, 2025 The official website is now open!

The broadcast for the Anne Shirley animated series, based on the globally beloved Anne of Green Gables series written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, will begin on April 5, 2025 at 18:25 on NHK Educational TV.

A key visual has also been released to coincide with this decision. This series will adapt three volumes of the Anne of Green Gables series across a total of twenty four episodes. The image depicts the protagonist Anne, her rival Gilbert, and her lifelong friend Diana, each of them looking slightly more grown up than they did at the beginning of the series, going out for a picnic in Avonlea, which serves as the setting of the story. Please look at how Ken’ichi Tsuchiya, the character designer for the series, has depicted their expressions, so full of life, against the beautiful backdrop of Avonlea.
Along with the release of this key visual, the official site has been updated with the release of a fifteen second teaser trailer. Please check out the official site . Also, in addition to the previously announced director and character designer, we will also announce other key members of the production staff.

The original Anne of Green Gables series, written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, is set in Avonlea on Canada’s beautiful Prince Edward Island. When the orphan Anne is adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, her incredible imagination and beautiful heart, cultivated through eleven years of hardship, change the hearts of those around her. This is a story filed with love which depicts the small joys in life through people’s emotions and the beauty of nature. During the more than seventy years since it was first translated into Japanese in 1952, it has been loved as an evergreen masterpiece. This timeless tale will now return to tell its coming-of-age story in a new way across twenty four episodes.

Anne, Diana and all of their friends on Prince Edward Island, claimed by the original work to be the most beautiful island in the world, will be portrayed as full of life and living together with nature across a total of twenty four well-paced episodes with the directing talents of Kawamata and charming character designs by Tsuchiya. Even now, a century after the publication of the original Anne of Green Gables, its story still contains things that we should all treasure in our lives. Anne Shirley will be a series for a wide audience from children to adults that will help them to discover the little joys in their lives and live more positively.
